New RU postcard!!!

 Curiosity about Russia:
  • Vladivostok is Russia's largest port city on the Pacific Ocean and the administrative center of Primorsky Krai. It is situated at the head of the Golden Horn Bay, not far from Russia's borders with China and North Korea. It is the home port of the Russian Pacific Fleet. The population of the city, according to the preliminary results of the 2010 Census, is 592,069, down from 594,701 recorded in the 2002 Census.

Another Russian postcard!

Curiosity about Russia:
  • The first man who entered a rocket was the Soviet astronaut Yuri Gagarin, on April 12, 1961. On board of the Vostok I, he did a complete lap around the Earth.

Best Wishes!

It's Summer Time!

Curiosity about Russia:
  •   Did you know that the largest forest in the world is not the Amazon, but the Russian taiga? Formed by conifers (pines), the taiga occupies much of Russia's territory (43%), Scandinavia, Alaska and Canada.

Best Wishes!

The Moscow Kremlin

To start the week in the best way possible, I received this amazing postcard of the Moscow Kremlin:

Curiosity about Russia:

  • The Russians use the father's name as a middle name and add "vich" (son) for boys, or "ovna"/ "evna" (daughter) for girls.
Best Wishes!

Saint Basil's Cathedral

Another Russian postcard this week! This time with the Saint Basil's Cathedral. I was waiting for a postcard like this for a long time... I love this church's architecture!

Curiosity about Russia:
  • You must take your shoes when entering someone's home - they will give you a pair of slippers for you to wear. Russians do so, especially in the winter, to keep the house clean.

Warm Regards!

Russian Metro

The 1st postcard of the week came from Russia and looks like this:

It's a pity that you can't actually see this picture with the same definition of the postcard.
It appears not only the metro arriving at the Vorobjovy Gory Station, but also a beautiful river scene with a boat and a green area (maybe a forest, on the other side),  through the window (right).
It's a really good photo!

Curiosity about Russia:
  • If you want to give flowers to a Russian give only in odd numbers; even numbers are used only for funerals. Russian florists already know this, but it's always good to prevent and know this curiosity :)

Best Wishes!

Girrafe says "Hallo"!

I don't know how this was possible, however on the 1.02.2011 a giraffe was in my mailbox!!! And that is not all: when I look closely she said Hallo!... I'm not lying. Here is the evidence:

This was one of the postcards that made me fell so happy and blessed, because the sender was careful enough to see my favorites and have the work and time to find one like it. I really appreciate it!

Curiosity about Germany:
  •  Cinderella's Castle (Disney) was inspired by the castle Neuschwanstein, located in southern Germany.

I received another postcard on the same day, this time from Russia.

 Curiosity about Russia:
  • The main square in Moscow is called Red Square (Krasnaya Ploshchad) because of the red roofs next to the towers of the Kremlin. In Russian, Krasnaya can mean both red and beautiful. Surely the most appropriate adjective to describe this square.

 Have a nice day!
