Delft Blue Figures...

This week has been really poor in postcards. But finally I received this beautiful postcard:

This shows the delft blue figures from the Netherlands and the stamp is about the International Court of Justice in Haye.

Curiosity about Netherlands:
  • The dutch are the tallest people in the world.

Dutch Clogs

Friday I received 2 very beautiful and special postcards. Here is one of them:

As you can see it shows the typical clogs, which have a mill draw on it. Really cool :) Also this postcard is a square instead of the regular rectangle.

Curiosity about Netherlands:
  • The traditional all-wooden Dutch klompen (clogs) have been officially accredited as safety shoes with the CE mark and can withstand almost any penetration, including sharp objects and/or concentrated acids. Today, Dutch clogs are primarily a beloved souvenir.

Best Wishes!

From Assen

Another postcard from Netherlands, this time Assen :)

Curiosity about Netherlands:
  • The world's oldest National Anthem is the  Dutch. His name is Wilhelmus and was composed between 1568 and 1572 in honor of William of Orange (martyr of independence from the Netherlands) and is used today as the official anthem of the country. The curious thing is that it only became official as the national anthem in 1932.

Warm Wishes!

Curiosity about Netherlands:
  • The Netherlands has the highest concentration of museums worldwide, including 42 in Amsterdam.

Best Wishes!

    Another Monday Surprise!

I think that, for now on, the act of going to the mailbox in a Monday will be called M.S, since we'll never know how many of them are hided there (we could even start making bets ;P)... Well, this time they were "only" 3. And all official. Check them below:

    Curiosity about Poland:
    • Poland is the birthplace of many distinguished personalities like Mikołaj Kopernik, Fryderyk Chopin, Maria Skłodowska Curie, and Pope John Paul II.

    Curiosity about Finland:
    •  Linus Torvalds (linux creator) is Finnish.
(this is one of my favorites because it's image and stamp are gorgeous and the person who wrote was kind enough to share a little bit of her way of living in his country... What more could I ask?)

     Curiosity about Netherlands:
    • To change a bit there are, after the postcard and the stamp, images of Netherlands architecture. Don't forget to see because it's really worthy to have a look.

    Now the architecture pictures:

Hope you like this little change.

    Best wishes!

    5 postcards in a day?!

Yes! Monday, as I've already mentioned, is normally full of postcards but on the  24th Jan. it was insane. 4 of them were official and other, from Kazakhstan, was from a direct swap. Here are them:

    Curiosity about China:
    • If the world were a single street, one in four of your neighbors would be Chinese.

    (Look at this stamps...
    They're beautiful!)

    Curiosity about Finland:
    • In Winter, temperatures range between -5 °C (23º F) and -30 °C (-22ºF).

    Curiosity about Kazakhstan:
    • In 2000, Kazakhstan became the first former Soviet Republic to repay all of its debt to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), 7 years ahead of schedule.

( Fountain of the Zodiac Signs)

    Curiosity about Netherlands:
    •  The Netherlands is one of the few countries that do not have the seat of government in the capital; it's in The Hague.

The postcard sender saw in my profile that I've recently started a stamp collection and decided to send me some :) Thank you so much!
You can see all of them right below.

By the way, my collection until this day was really poor, because I've only started to be interested in stamps in September. To have an idea I'm showing it... 3 of them are from South Africa, 4 from Spain and 3 from Portugal.

     (Back to the postcards...)

    Curiosity about USA:
    • The legal age to consume alcoholic drinks is 21.

    It's all for today... Bye!

    3 more postcards!

One thing that I've learn is that Monday is the day that I receive more postcards, normally 3. And that Monday (17.01) was no exception. Here are them:

     Curiosity about Switzerland:

Switzerland has 1.11% of population over 100 years, the highest percentage in Europe. Worldwide, only the Japanese get better marks. In 2000 there were 798 inhabitants centenarians in Switzerland.

    Curiosity about USA:
    • In the U.S. you can get a driver's license at age 16.

    Curiosity about Netherlands:
    •  The Netherlands have more than 15,000 bike lanes; there are as many bicycles as people.

       Have a nice day!  :)
