•   According to urban legend, in 1977 it was banned the sale of   Donald Duck(Akku Ankka)'s comics because this cute duck was not wearing pants! The reality? The politicians decided it was OK to spend taxpayer money so that libraries had the complete collection of Donald Duck comics.

A Finnish Angel

This week I received a postcard from Finland:

As you can see it shows a person making an angel in the snow. It's really common in Finland to make this because of the big amount of snow that falls.
I think that the stamp is from the same collection as the one that is in the hand made postcard.

Curiosity about Finland:

• In Finnish enkeli means angel and lumi snow. I thought it is quite funny that lumi is snow because, in Portuguese, we have a similar word: lume, that means fire.

Another official postcard from Finland, which was the 1st country to reach 1,000,000 sent postcards!

 It's such a shame that you can't see this fantastic stamp well. When you move the postcard you can see a snowboarder do a flip! How amazing...

•  Anyone who wants to throw away your mobile phone can do it with style and even win a medal for that World Championship Cell Phone Throwing, the latest Finnish contribution to international athletics. Held in Savonlinna, a town near the border with Russia.

Hand-made postcard

This is my 1st hand-made postcards and it's from Finland:

The main image of the postcard is from a book called Suomen Kaunis Luonto (Beautiful Nature of Finland) that was written in 1955, as the sender told me.

Another Monday Surprise!

I think that, for now on, the act of going to the mailbox in a Monday will be called M.S, since we'll never know how many of them are hided there (we could even start making bets ;P)... Well, this time they were "only" 3. And all official. Check them below:

Curiosity about Finland:

•  Linus Torvalds (linux creator) is Finnish.

 (this is one of my favorites because it's image and stamp are gorgeous and the person who wrote was kind enough to share a little bit of her way of living in his country... What more could I ask?)

  

 Curiosity about Netherlands:

• To change a bit there are, after the postcard and the stamp, images of Netherlands architecture. Don't forget to see because it's really worthy to have a look.

1st postcard from Ukraine!

Well, on the 27.01 I received 2 postcards. They are here:

Curiosity about Ukraine:

•   Ukraine was known as the breadbasket of the former Soviet Union. Its fertile soil is very good for growing wheat, flour, potatoes and rice. 

 

This sender kindly gave me some stamps. One is back from 1974, another from 1991,one is triangular...! Wow! Thank you so so much. Now my small collection is a lot richer.

 

  

Curiosity about Finland:

• In the country, which has 5.6 million inhabitants, there are approximately 200,000 lakes.

5 postcards in a day?!

Yes! Monday, as I've already mentioned, is normally full of postcards but on the  24th Jan. it was insane. 4 of them were official and other, from Kazakhstan, was from a direct swap. Here are them:

  By the way, my collection until this day was really poor, because I've only started to be interested in stamps in September. To have an idea I'm showing it... 3 of them are from South Africa, 4 from Spain and 3 from Portugal.
