• Trabant - was a car produced by Sachsenring in Zwickau, in former East Germany (GDR) between 1957 and 1991. It is estimated that there are only 200 000 Trabants in circulation.The Trabi is still the greatest symbol of the former GDR and everything it represented. The simple end of the automobile coincided with the end of the Cold War and the bipolar division of the world.

• A "Schultüte" (or School Cone, even though the word "Tüte" translates more as "bag" from German), often also called Zuckertüte ("sugar bag", especially in Eastern Germany) is a paper (and later plastic) bag in particular.
  
  When children in Germany and Austria set off for their first day in school upon entering first grade, their parents and/or grandparents present them with a big cardboard cone, prettily decorated and filled with toys, chocolate, candies, school supplies, and various other goodies. It is given to children to make this anxiously awaited first day of school a little bit sweeter.

As you can see is shows the Fountain at the Cathedral Square. On the stamp a Ballonblume.

Sonnenaufgang am Staffelsee

Today I received a postcard from Germany. It's been some time since I've received something from this country.
So it here is:

The postcard shows a typical Winter landscape and the stamps commemorates the 300 years of Porcelain production. On the back was also this imprint that says: Straubing - Region of the renewable raw material.

Curiosity about Germany:

• Were Gottlieb Daimler and Karl Benz, both German, that invented the first gasoline-powered car. After that, in 1885,  their compatriot, Rudolf Diesel, created the diesel engine.

Girrafe says "Hallo"!

I don't know how this was possible, however on the 1.02.2011 a giraffe was in my mailbox!!! And that is not all: when I look closely she said Hallo!... I'm not lying. Here is the evidence:

 This was one of the postcards that made me fell so happy and blessed, because the sender was careful enough to see my favorites and have the work and time to find one like it. I really appreciate it!

Curiosity about Germany:

•  Cinderella's Castle (Disney) was inspired by the castle Neuschwanstein, located in southern Germany.

I received another postcard on the same day, this time from Russia.

 Curiosity about Russia:

• The main square in Moscow is called Red Square (Krasnaya Ploshchad) because of the red roofs next to the towers of the Kremlin. In Russian, Krasnaya can mean both red and beautiful. Surely the most appropriate adjective to describe this square.

First Postcards

Hi  : )
Since I have already some postcards and I just began with this blog, I'll start presenting them by their arrival date. Adding to the image I'll write some curiosity about the country.
So on the 10th January, I received 3 postcards, which one (Turkey) is not official.

 

Curiosity about Germany:

• The rail system in Germany is one of the best in the world with its ICE trains (Inter City Express). They're fast, modern, clean, punctual and comfortable.
   

 



Curiosity about Finland:

•  In Finland there is no night for up to two months per year. At this time, sunset simply doesn't exist. 

Curiosity about Turkey:

• Istanbul is the only city in the world with territory in two continents, Asia and Europe.
