60 stamps in a postcard?!

Not literally but the truth is that this Canadian sent me an envelope with the postcard (1st image), 60 old stamps (3rd image) and some stickers with Canada's flag.

Curiosity about Canada:
  •  Did you know that the word Canada came from the word "Kanata", which is a Cree expression for village?

Hope you liked it...
Best Wishes!

Art postcard

This is from the South Louisiana and shows a oil painting of a local artist:

Curiosity about USA:
  •   I'm going to be honest with you, at the begging I thought this was fake, but now I'm forced to admit that it's  really truth. Well, let me explain you the news: a PINK dolphin in Louisiana Lake. Surprised? See the evidence:

And this is not photoshoped. Watch the video:

( If you can't see it here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4ROHto8d50 )

There is a specie of pink dolphin that lives in the Amazon River in South America, but this one appears to be a more common bottlenose dolphin.

Cute kitty from Hong Kong

My 1st postcard from Hong Kong has arrived yesterday and it's so cute. Just take a look:

Curiosity about Hong Kong:
  • The sender, named Gladys, told me that, same days ago, was the Chinese Valentine's day. In this special day, people carry paper lanterns ( don't get it confused with the mid- autumn festival) and solve riddles that are in those.  There is also another Valentine's day called Qixi Festival, whose story is going to be told in a future postcard :D

Thanks a lot Gladys! :)

Best Wishes

Another NL postcard :)

This is the 4th postcard from the Netherlands:

Curiosity about Netherlands:
  • The Netherlands have two autonomous territories in the Caribbean: the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.

Best Wishes!

The Year of the Rabbit

Another postcard from Asia, in this particular case China, trough a direct swap. Here it is:

Curiosity about China:
  • To know a little bit more about those whose Chinese sign is Rabbit here are some personality traits:

Years: 1903, 1915,1927,1939, 1963, 1975, 1987 and 1999

Personality

Occupying the 4th position in the Chinese Zodiac, the Rabbit symbolizes such character traits as creativity, compassion, and sensitivity. Rabbits are friendly, outgoing and prefer the company of others. They also prefer to avoid conflict. Rabbits believe strongly in friends and family.
Because they're serene animals, Rabbits are easily taken advantage of. They're overall conservative and not interested in taking risks.
Classy, sophisticated, expressive, well-mannered and stylish, those born under the Sign of the Rabbit enjoy leaning about cultural issues and learning about people from other countries.

Hope you like it!

Hand-made postcard

This is my 1st hand-made postcards and it's from Finland:

The main image of the postcard is from a book called Suomen Kaunis Luonto (Beautiful Nature of Finland) that was written in 1955, as the sender told me.

Curiosity about Finland:
  • Since this postcard is about nature I decided to leave you were some beautiful (in my opinion) photos of Finland. Take a look...

Nature makes really perfect things!

Best Wishes!

Chinese New Year Card

Asia was well represented yesterday and this postcard is from Taiwan:

It's so sad that the photo doesn't really show how pretty this postcard is. But to have an idea, the gold is more bright and the characters and fish are embossed.

The stamps are so so beautiful and sender was kind enough to write in English with the translation to Chinese, since I'm learning this last language.

Thank you so much!

Curiosity about Taiwan:
  •  In Taiwan there are 12  restaurants which the theme is... Toilet. All the seats are close-stool; tables are bathtub or sink with a glass on the top, walls are decorated with many shower nozzles on it, the food comes in your own hot toilet bowl with a little fake “poop” on one side. Don't believe it? Take a look...

Have a nice day!

Maiko Girl

This time a postcard arrived from Japan and it's this:

This postcard show a Maiko-Girl and it was choose 16 times (so far) as a favorite.
The sender also put a sticker with a Maiko Girl:

Curiosity about Japan:

The sender told me that Maikos are aged 15 to 20 and have to learn how to dance, play Shamisen and Kyo-Kotoba (Kyoto dialect).

I leave here a video so you can ear the sound of the Shamisen:

Directly from Marshall Islands!

After almost a week without receiving a single postcard they decided to show up yesterday. And guess what... 6 postcard (yes, 6) in a row. I'll dedicate a post to every single one of them, since they're really special :)

The first one that I'm showing came from Marshall Islands due to a private swap. Here it's:

As you can see it's a postcard showing a fish called Clown Triggerfish. The 1st stamp is a Butterscotch Sundae and the 2nd one is a starfish.

I also decided to add the sender's draws. He also explained that crabs are very common in Majuro and that the dogs are always ready to bark and bite people ;)

Curiosity about Marshall Islands:

The localization (red circle) and the flag

It's really a rare and beautiful postcard. Hope you like it.

Best Wishes!

  • The saxophone was created in Belgium.

4th postcard from USA

On 09.02.2011 I received my 4th postcard from USA.
Here it is:

Curiosity about USA:
  • The City of Pittston promotes itself as "The Quality Tomato Capital of the World." The Pittston Tomato Festival, in its twenty-seventh year in 2010, is held annually on South Main Street in downtown Pittston to celebrate the city's tradition and heritage in cultivating the tomato.

Hope you liked it!

Bye bye

Another Monday Surprise!

I think that, for now on, the act of going to the mailbox in a Monday will be called M.S, since we'll never know how many of them are hided there (we could even start making bets ;P)... Well, this time they were "only" 3. And all official. Check them below:

Curiosity about Poland:
  • Poland is the birthplace of many distinguished personalities like MikoÅ‚aj Kopernik, Fryderyk Chopin, Maria SkÅ‚odowska Curie, and Pope John Paul II.

Curiosity about Finland:
  •  Linus Torvalds (linux creator) is Finnish.
(this is one of my favorites because it's image and stamp are gorgeous and the person who wrote was kind enough to share a little bit of her way of living in his country... What more could I ask?)

 Curiosity about Netherlands:
  • To change a bit there are, after the postcard and the stamp, images of Netherlands architecture. Don't forget to see because it's really worthy to have a look.

Now the architecture pictures:

Hope you like this little change.

Best wishes!
